Alex Smith is easy to root for

I told you guys there would be randomness in this article. When I find myself watching an Alex Smith interview, I tend to think about how likable a person he is. It’s not like we’ve hung out recently or anything, but he seems like a genuine guy who wants to win football games. With that being said, I feel like when it comes to people I know or things I read in the media, nobody has anything ever nice to say about Alex Smith.

It is always some sort of criticism about how he can’t push the ball down the field or how he is the true definition of a game manager. I feel rarely is number 11 applauded for what he does well on and off the football field. For me, after being slighted in San Fran and having to deal with his constant critics, I find myself rooting for this guy more and more. Maybe I am just grateful Matt Cassel is gone.

Nick Foles revenge

Foles will be facing his former team Saturday night, apparently a topic that was touched upon on Hard Knocks this week. The Rams look unsettled at QB right now, so I’m sure Foles would love to play well even if the game means nothing. Jared Goff was the right pick in my eyes for the LA Rams, so I think he will come around even if it takes some extra time. It’ll be interesting to see how he performs after getting his feet wet in the NFL a week ago.

Twitter advice

Chief fans, if you do not already, you have to be following Terez Paylor (@TerezPaylor) of the Kansas City Star on Twitter. For someone like me who follows the Chiefs on the east coast of the country, Terez does a great job of giving practice reports and keeping fans up to date. He did a Facebook Live the other night with colleague Sam Mellinger (who also does great work, @mellinger) where fans could ask questions after the preseason game. They took the time to answer everyone’s questions, and I thought it was pretty cool. Go give them a follow.

Player spotlight this week: Dee Ford

He has to do something. Like now. The Chiefs need him too. He is still having a hard time defending the run and developing as a pass rusher. The speed rush is just about the only move in his arsenal. This draft pick was interesting when it was made, and it is still just as interesting today.
