Coffee with the Chiefs – More Foles!

facebooktwitterreddit

Good morning, Addicts! Hopefully you are enjoying some nice weather on this Friday. It’s almost time for another addition of Kansas City Chiefs training camp practice, but that hasn’t been the main topic over the last 36 hours.

General manager John Dorsey made a big move by agreeing to terms with quarterback Nick Foles on a one-year, $1.75 million deal with a team option for a second year. Foles is easily a top-tier backup in the NFL, perhaps even the best. Getting a former Pro Bowler at 28 years old to sit behind Alex Smith? Money.

Speaking of money, Foles hasn’t been officially signed yet because the Chiefs have to fit him under the cap. Currently, they are sitting on about $500K of space, so somebody fairly significant has to go.

Here is the news you need to know…

Reactions to Nick Foles signing with the ChiefsJoel Thorman of Arrowhead Pride

"The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly signed Nick Foles overnight so we don’t have as many reactions as we normally do because everyone was asleep (including me)."

Rival report: Chiefs sign Nick Foles Marcus Allen Krause of Silver and Black Pride

"The somewhat surprising move does make a lot of sense for the Chiefs, especially with head coach Andy Reid already knowing Foles so well from their time together in Philly. In fact, it was Reid who used a 2nd round pick on Foles and then traded away Donovan McNabb to start the Foles era in Philadelphia before Chip Kelly arrived on the scene."

Tyrann Mathieu’s deal, and how it affects Eric BerryTerez Paylor of the Kansas City Star

"That said, if I were him — and I took a deal less than what Mathieu eventually ended up getting — I’d be upset. Period. I don’t think the Chiefs were offering anything close to what Mathieu received, so that said, I think Berry and his agent, Chad Speck, probably made the right move rejecting whatever was offered."
