The Kansas City Chiefs made an interesting move on Friday afternoon.

With star safety Eric Berry still sitting out while refusing to sign his $10.8 million franchise tag, general manager John Dorsey signed free-agent safety Jeron Johnson, according to Ian Rapoport.

This is a little move that could be hinting at something massive. We already watched Carolina Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman move on from corner Josh Norman when he was on the tag. Norman’s tag was rescinded and he signed a $75 million deal with the Washington Redskins.

Could the Chiefs, who literally have about $150K in salary cap space, be preparing to release Berry and save almost $11 million? It would be a weird move for a team that is going for the Super Bowl, but Dorsey might make it if he believes the horses are in the barn to replace Berry.

As for Johnson, he is a spare part who was cut by Washington back in March. At 28 years old, Johnson has played for the Seattle Seahawks and Redskins, logging two sacks and zero interceptions in five campaigns.
