Training Camp 2016: Biggest question for AFC West teams
San Diego Chargers: Can Melvin Gordon bounce back in year two?
The Chargers are certainly hoping so after selecting the Wisconsin back 15th overall in 2015. Gordon struggled to adjust to the NFL game last season, racking up only 641 yards on 184 carries (only 3.5 yards a carry). Perhaps his biggest problem in his rookie season was the lack of ball security; Gordon managed to cough up the ball five times with four of them becoming turnovers.
Now, nobody should be screaming bust from the top of their lungs just yet; every player develops at a different pace when it comes to the challenge the NFL brings. Gordon is a very talented player, and we all saw what he was able to accomplish at Wisconsin. With that being said, the NFL is always referred to as a “what have you done for me lately?” league.
He will need to bring his A game right off the bat come September. The kitchen is only going to get hotter after an unsuccessful opening campaign. If Gordon doesn’t take a significant step forward in 2016, we could be looking at the next Trent Richardson. And nobody wants to be the next Trent Richardson.
