The Kansas City Chiefs have not been able to move forward on a deal with Eric Berry.

The Chiefs are running out of time to procure their First-Team All-Pro strong safety. Berry needs to be signed by 3 p.m. CST or else he can’t be given a long-term deal until after this season concludes.

The problem with that is Berry will certainly want to hit free agency and go get a deal that perhaps Kansas City can’t offer. The Chiefs have absolutely no cap space going into next season and signing Berry would be near impossible, once you consider that the Chiefs also have Dontari Poe hitting free agency.

If Berry is going remain in Kansas City, the time is now to strike a deal. The Chiefs desperately are trying to win a Super Bowl for the first time since 1969, and having Berry in the fold would be a huge part of that puzzle. Without him, they are looking at Ron Parker, Jamell Fleming, Daniel Sorensen and Marcus Cooper, alongside rookie Eric Murray. Feeling good about that?

General manager John Dorsey has to do all he can to get a deal in place. Otherwise, the Chiefs’ offseason has taken another ugly turn.
