A little respect please. No. 25 personally admitted it was tough to watch his team accomplish so much without him. Jamaal was of course happy for his guys, but it killed him knowing he couldn’t help contribute to Kansas City’s chase for a ring. This is a man on a mission in 2016, to prove he is still one of the best running backs this league has to offer.
As we all very well know, this is not an injury foreign to Charles. But after tearing his ACL in Week 2 of 2011, Jamaal would respond by rushing for a career high 1509 yards the following year. Granted, it was a season in which the Chiefs won all of two games, but without Jamaal Charles, there really wouldn’t have been any reason to turn on the TV.
This man is a very special player who unfortunately does not get the airtime he should. Since gaining the starting RB gig in 2009, Jamaal has run for at least 1000 yards in every healthy season he has played in. If he is on the field, he gets it done.
There is no doubt that this year will be the steepest task Charles has faced yet. Kansas City’s all-time leading rusher will have just more to battle than his health. Turning 30 years old in December, history says time is not on Jamaal’s side as an NFL running back. Not to mention the Chiefs also have two younger and cheaper options they can roll with if Charles seems to have lost a step. Strapped for cap space already in 2017, if Jamaal cannot perform in 2016, his time as a Chief could be over.
Personally, I can’t wait to see what the franchise player of this team does with his back against the wall. Although Charles may be approaching the inevitable decline of a pro running back, do not ignore that he lost two years in his prime thanks to some bad luck. Besides, we are not discussing an ordinary running back. I don’t have to tell you guys what this man is capable of. We all want to see Jamaal come back better than ever. More importantly, we want him to be a Chief for life.
