Arizona Cardinals: Some Cardinals fans were a bit disappointed when the team cut former British Olympian, Lawrence Okoye last year.  Well, that won’t be the least bit tempered now that the reasoning is out.  Okoye was apparently waived because he parked in a spot reserved for ticket purchasers.

  • Author’s Take: The Cardinals made an example out of Okoye, but nobody should pretend this same treatment would be given to Carson Palmer or Patrick Peterson.  Only players of a certain value are subject to this rule.

Baltimore Ravens: Ravens tight end Darren Waller has been suspended for four games due to a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.

Carolina Panthers: The Panthers are reportedly working on a contract extension for safety Kurt Coleman.

Chicago Bears: The Bears apparently beat out a number of teams that placed a waiver claim on quarterback Connor Shaw.

Cleveland Browns: The Browns have waived quarterback Connor Shaw as they move one step closer to starting the season with Robert Griffin III at the helm.

Denver Broncos: The Broncos have reportedly re-opened talks with star linebacker Von Miller.  There is some hope that a deal will be done before the July 15 deadline, though optimism is starting to wear thin.

Adding to the mix is the report that teams have begun to reach out to the Broncos about trading for Miller.  In the meantime, the team has put contract talks on hold with wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders.

  • Chiefs’ Take: Obviously if this stalemate continues, the Chiefs stand to benefit.  Without Miller on the field, the Broncos defense is nothing close to what it was this past year.
  • Author’s Take: I think the deal gets done.  At this point, John Elway doesn’t have many other options left to him.  Even a trade wouldn’t sit well with fans.  So unless he’s willing to undergo a rebuilding effort, it’s unlikely he will let the team’s top superstar leave.
