Chiefs need a few good men to step up
The Kansas City Chiefs need help from a few key guys to win in 2016.
Last year was one of the most remarkable things we have ever seen in the National Football League. The Chiefs went from 1-5 and without Jamaal Charles and anything resembling a nickel corner to winning 10 consecutive games to close out the regular season.
Then, as though that as not enough, Kansas City rolled to a 30-0 shutout of the Houston Texans, finally ending the 22-year drought in the postseason. While the magical ride did conclude in New England, every Chiefs fan was elated.
So, how does the magic come back? How does Kansas City find a way back into the Divisional round and beyond?
At this time of year, we always seem to focus on the wild cards and guys we always term sleepers. It’s all about players like Justin March, Tyreek Hill, De’Anthony Thomas and Steven Nelson. Will they step up and fill a void on the team or will they sink back into minor roles and never be heard from in a meaningful way?
We talk about that because it fills the silence. Yet, deep down, we all know that come Week 1, we won’t be talking about most of them. Maybe one guy steps up and becomes a huge factor, but most of the time, it’s an exercise in futility.
In reality, it’s all about the names we already know.
