ESPN writers discuss whether Alex Smith can win a Super Bowl.

It’s the question constantly surrounding the Kansas City Chiefs. While the talent is great, is quarterback Alex Smith good enough to win the Super Bowl?

Smith has been to the playoffs three times as a starter and reached the Divisional round twice, with a single NFC title game appearance with the San Francisco 49ers in 2011.

Over at ESPN, the question was posed by Adam Teicher, the Chiefs writer for NFL Nation, whether Smith had the chops to get it done. The three rival beat writers responded, all with different takes on the situation.

Frankly, Smith has shown he can win in big games. He was very good last year in the playoffs and was nothing short of brilliant for the 49ers in their win over the New Orleans Saints back in the 2011 NFC Divisional Round. In 2013, Smith threw for 378 yards and four touchdowns in the AFC Wild Card Game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Smith is often criticized for being too cautious and those feelings are warranted. Smith needs to throw the ball downfield more and not be afraid of making a mistake.

That said, I believe the Chiefs can win a Super Bowl with Smith, provided the rest of the team is solid around him.
