Stat Predictions for Chiefs Key Defenders
By Andrew Jones
Summer is officially upon us and training camp is just around the corner.
The Kansas City Chiefs’ talented defense may be without a few key play-makers during camp but don’t expect those stars to sit out much if any of the season. It is possible that Eric Berry will not be signed to a long term deal by the July 15th deadline but the chances of him not signing the franchise tender are slim. He will be a Chief this year but whether on a one-year term or multi-year blockbuster remains to be seen.
Tamba Hali and Justin Houston on the other hand will miss some or all of camp as a result of offseason surgeries. While Hali should be ready for the opener in September, a confident Houston is not expected to suit up for all 16 games. I think the best case for fans to hope for is that Houston will play in 10 games this year.
The many other studs on the Chiefs’ defense are thus far having a terrific off-season and hope to build on a great 2015. Players like Derrick Johnson, Marcus Peters, Dontari Poe, and Jaye Howard will have big impacts as the Chiefs look to go beyond their only playoff win in over 20 years. Here are predictions for those seven aforementioned defensive stars. (based on 2015 stats provided here)
