Power Rankings: Chiefs Top 10 All-Time Offensive Linemen
By Bill Robbins
2. Jim Tyrer
Tyrer was an amazing offensive tackle that dominated in the 13 years that he spent with the organization. He enjoyed 9 seasons where he made the Pro Bowl, including six of those times earning First-Team All-Pro honors. Like many on this list, he was someone that many defensive linemen did not want to line up across from either in the running game or the passing attack.
Tragically, Tyrer’s life was cut short in 1980 when he committed suicide after murdering his wife, leaving behind a lot of questions but also a great legacy and career for Chiefs kingdom. He was later inducted into the Chiefs HOF in 1977 and was a finalist for the NFL HOF four years later in 1981.
1. Will Shields
The hands down, unanimous pick here for best offensive lineman in Kansas City Chiefs history is obviously Will Shields. Shields career resume speaks for itself. The University of Nebraska great started in an incredible 223 consecutive games as a member of the Chiefs, which is good for third all-time for offensive lineman in NFL history and the fifth best mark overall for all positions in league history.
The punishing and very physical blocking right guard also made 12 consecutive Pro Bowl teams from 1995-2006. Big Will was inducted into the team’s HOF in 2012 and later inducted into the NFL HOF in 2015. To this day, he is still the only offensive lineman that has ever played for this organization to be enshrined in Canton as a KC Chief. The Kansas native was and still is an outstanding person off the field too, as he started a non-profit organization named “Will to Succeed Foundation” which helps give aid to individuals and families who are in need.
