Jeremy Maclin Receptions

Over/Under Line: 87 receptions

After several years of dreaming of a true number one wide receiver in Kansas City, Chiefs fans got their wish with the arrival of Jeremy Maclin. Maclin was by far the best receiver KC has seen in quite some time as he amassed 87 receptions in his first season with the Chiefs.

So the question is, will Maclin exceed that total next year or will his numbers slip a little in 2016?

Again, your gut reaction may be to jump on the over. After all, a second year in KC and developing a relationship with Alex Smith should only help, right? Possibly, but keep in mind that 87 receptions was a career high for Maclin who has only averaged 71.7 receptions per season over his career. Other factors to consider include that Maclin played in 15 games in 2015.

Are you confident he can match (or surpass) that in 2016? Finally, will any of KC’s young wideouts emerge this season and take some of the load off of Maclin’s shoulders?

My Prediction: Over

Alex Smith goes with what he trusts. KC may have some young talent at wide receiver but Smith isn’t a guy that’s going to throw a ton of balls to someone looking to earn his trust when there’s a guy that already has it lined up on the other side of the field.

You could see Maclin and Smith really starting to gel down the stretch last season and I think you’ll see Smith continue to target his number one guy at a very high rate this year. If Maclin stays healthy I don’t think a 100 catch season is out of the question.

What do you think, over or under 87 receptions for Jeremy Maclin?
