Should Chiefs fans be excited over the developing Von Miller fiasco?

If you have followed the news, you will have noticed that the Denver Broncos and outside linebacker Von Miller are currently at an impasse. The Broncos reportedly offered Miller a five-year deal worth $114.5 million with $39.5 million in guaranteed. Miller didn’t agree.

Now, general manager John Elway is pulling the offer and Miller’s camp is threatening to hold out the entire season. As a group of Kansas City Chiefs fans, this could be terrific news.

However, let’s not get too excited. Miller is a great player and if he holds out the entire season or even part of it, the Broncos would be devastated. Yet Miller and Denver’s brass has until July 15 to work out a long-term deal.

Last year, we heard all kinds of chatter that general manager JOhn Dorsey and outside linebacker Justin Houston weren’t going to agree on a deal, and then came to a contract on the deadline date. It’s unfathomable to think Elway isn’t going to sign his best and most important player, even if it becomes more costly than originally anticipated.

For now, the Miller story might make Kansas City smile but it doesn’t mean anything. Miller wants to get a long-term deal done to secure his future and the Broncos want him on the field. It would be stunning if these two sides can’t get a contract worked out.
