Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas says he loves football, but is that enough to keep him around?

The Chiefs are going into the third year of the De’Anthony Thomas experiment, and some believe time is ticking louder than ever.

Thomas was injured last year against the San Diego Chargers in Week 11, sustaining a concussion. After that, there was talk about whether he or the team was keeping him off the field, with the pervasive thought being that Thomas was holding himself out of action.

Legions thought he would be dealt in the offseason but a trade never came tofruition and now Thomas is at OTAs, doing his job. However, Thomas will ahve serious competition to make the roster.

Kansas City drafted wide receivers Demarcus Robinson and Tyreek Hill while adding Rod Streater and Mike Williams in free agency. The Chiefs typically keep six receivers and with Thomas’ ability to return punts being negated by Hill’s blazing speed, perhaps he ends up on the wrong side of the roster bubble.

If the Chiefs keep both Robinson and Hill, Thomas is gone. kansas City will certainly keep Chris Conley, Albert Wilson and Jeremy Maclin, while Streater is almost a lock provided he’s healthy. That would be six receivers not including Thomas.
