Laurent Duvernay-Tardif: He’s one of the fan favorites, but “Doc Canada” certainly struggled a lot last year.  Tardif appears to have the tools to be a successful NFL guard, but having the tools doesn’t mean a player will put them together.

Draft records are filled with names of guys who never put it together on the field, many of them much more highly touted than LDT.  Still, he has experience and hopefully he can show some development.  If that’s the case, the Chiefs may stand pat with him.

As Tardif continues to pursue his medical degree, I almost question his devotion to football.  Is this even something he wants to do long term?  The league has already seen a big increase in players retiring early or pursuing other avenues.

Certainly a medical career would be much more stable, and far less dangerous to his health.  On top of that, as I mentioned, there is still the question of whether or not he can develop into a quality player.  That’s quite a bit for the staff and front office to be betting on.
