Eakins’ temperament and level-headed demeanor is a good contrast from other players in his position.  In our conversation following the interview, Eakins went down the roster asking me what I thought about each of the Chiefs’ current wide receivers.

He holds a noted appreciation for former undrafted free-agent Albert Wilson, who has made a name for himself.

The road ahead is a daunting one.  Eakins mentioned that there were a lot of wide receivers at the minicamp, and that’s reflected on the current roster which currently lists 12 receivers under contract with the Chiefs.  Clearly the Kansas City brain trust is putting an investment into developing the passing attack. While that’s good news for Chiefs fans, it makes the road for guys like Eakins that much more difficult.

I owe a big “thank you” to Eakins for agreeing to do this interview with me.  He comes across as a very humble individual with a practical outlook on life.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first reached out to Eakins, but when I shook hands with the young man wearing his Citadel class ring and a Chiefs shirt, I knew I was going to come away impressed.  I certainly did.
