Since the draft has ended and undrafted free agents have been signed we can begin to make some predictions as to who will be the big contributors for the Chiefs in 2016. This week we will look at the offensive side of the ball with running backs, tight ends, wide receivers and of course the quarterback.

Fans of Kansas City would love nothing more than an offensive explosion to finally solidify Alex Smith as more than a game manager and give the stellar defense a bit more of a cushion to rely on. So lets dive right into what could take this team to the next level from the offensive playmakers.

Alex Smith- QB

3,625 pass yards; 28 touchdowns; 8 interceptions; 65% completion; 185 rush yards; 3 rush TDs

This is going to be a big year for Smith with the return of Jamaal Charles and the continued progression with Jeremy Maclin and Chris Conley. If anything is to be taken from rookie mini camp then 4th round pick Demarcus Robinson has big play potential.

During the Chiefs 11-game winning streak last year one of the biggest differences was that Smith was taking more risks and moving the ball down the field. His game against Buffalo was proof that when he is on point with Maclin then amazing things can happen.

Smith should get some more protection this year with continuity back in the offensive line and the rock-like solidity of Mitchell Schwartz at right tackle. Take in the continued progression of Eric Fisher and Zach Fulton and Smith should find time in the pocket to look downfield without having to use his legs and risk getting hit more. Not that Smith won’t be willing to run the ball when necessary but it should be one of his lowest rushing totals of his career.

Jamaal Charles- RB

175 rushes; 938 rush yards; 14 touchdowns; 35 rec; 385 rec yards; 3 touchdowns

Charles will not have the best year of his career as far as his rushing totals being that there are two perfectly capable runners that will share the backfield with him. His talents will be more utilized catching passes and running near the goal line. Charles will set a career mark in touchdowns by doing what he does best on the goal line.

Charles will still have the moves to break out long runs but the Chiefs will conserve his carries to make sure he is available come December and January.
