Unless Alex Smith goes down with an injury, or the Chiefs lock up their playoff hopes early enough, we’re not going to see any of the backups taking the field.  And there is even less likely of a chance, at this point, that the Kansas City decision makers see either Murray or Bray as the future of this organization.

And when you step back and look at the situation, that’s the most logical conclusion anyways.  Aaron Murray came in with a lot of fanfare following a quality college career, but also had a number of questions.

And while he had a nice cheering section, the truth is that he was never able to beat out a career backup in Chase Daniel, and also didn’t show enough for the Chiefs to move on from an UDFA quarterback that they kept finding a way to stash.

For Bray it’s probably even worse.  Though the Chiefs did re-sign him, he has never been able to get on the field and has only cracked the active roster one time in three years.

On top of that, he’s been the guy behind Aaron Murray on the Chiefs quarterback list for the past two years.  So if Murray’s days are numbered, Bray’s would seem even more so.

The Chiefs backup quarterbacks will have to step up and show something if they want to keep their jobs.  It’s clear that Reid and Dorsey are ready to upgrade this roster in just about every area.  That puts a lot of young guys on notice to step up or step out, and no position reflects that as much as the backup quarterback spot right now.
