Should the Kansas City Chiefs pursue Brandon Boykin?

Maybe Kansas City Chiefs fans were disappointed when general manager John Dorsey did not sign cornerback Brandon Boykin earlier this offseason.

There are legions who believe Boykin is one of the best slot corners in the game, and at only 25 years old appeared to be a steal for the Carolina Panthers, who signed a one-year, $840,000 deal in March.

Now, Boykin has been released only two months after putting pen to paper.

This is a bit shocking but makes you think. Boykin was drafted in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Georgia by the Philadelphia Eagles before being traded for a fifth-round selection prior to last season, sending him to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Boykin played well by all accounts for the corner-starved Steelers, but was allowed to walk despite his low price tag. Now, he has been released without playing a down by Carolina, antoher team very thin in the secondary.

While the Chiefs desperately need corner help and Boykin would be a great talent to add at an affordable price, there has to be something going on. Good corners don’t bounce around the league like this for no reason.

Is Boykin a pain to deal with? Is he a head case? Why is a 25-year-old who can blanket the best slot receivers in football on the market again?

This is a time for Dorsey to dig in and do some major homework. After all, his current head coach drafted him.
