Outside Linebacker

This is really pertaining mostly to Dee Ford. If the Chiefs internally thought he was a liability on the field or hadn’t developed enough, they likely would’ve taken a pass rusher early like Noah Spence or Shilique Calhoun when they had the chance.

Since they didn’t, it seems like they’re comfortable enough with him to hold down one of the outside linebacker positions until Justin Houston comes back. I know they took Dadi Nicolas late, and although he’s got some potential as a pass rusher, he’ll have his work cut out for him to even make the 53 man roster given the overall depth of the Chiefs’ roster.

Inside Linebacker

Some of you were calling hard for the Chiefs to take Reggie Ragland or Kentrell Brothers, but they didn’t end up taking any inside linebackers. To me, this shows that the Chiefs are pleased with their short term plans (DJ and Josh Mauga) as well as their long term options (Justin March and Ramik Wilson) at the inside linebacker position.

To be completely honest, anyone who identifies the inside linebacker position as one of the major weaknesses on the team probably doesn’t know about March and Wilson. These two guys made some exciting plays in the preseason, Wilson even having a solid game in the regular season against Minnesota, and really should be looked at as two potential starters down the road.

What other positions do you think the Chiefs showed faith in? You could make a case for offensive tackle and running back, but I really didn’t expect them to take any pure tackle or running back given how strong the positions already are. Are you comfortable with the Chiefs not investing a high pick in any of the four positions I identified above? How do you feel about these positions going forward?
