4th Round – Pick 105
Parker Ehinger – OL – Cincinnati

AA Grade: B+

My thoughts: I was REALLY hoping that the Chiefs would draft someone to compete for a starting guard spot here in the fourth round. When they made this pick my emotions were split. On one hand, I was happy that they addressed the offensive line. On the other hand, I was thinking “Who?!?!” Now, I realize that I don’t have an ounce of the knowledge of draft prospects that John Dorsey and his staff do, but I had spent a TON of time looking for guys that I thought might be able to start at guard for KC and Ehinger wasn’t one of them.

While that made me nervous, I also thought Mitch Morse seemed like a reach in the second round last year and he turned out to be a fantastic pick. So I was willing to give the pick the benefit of the doubt.

After the draft was over Ehinger was the first player I was anxious to study. As someone that is admittedly obsessed with KC bolstering their offensive line I wanted to know if this guy was the real deal. The first thing you notice when you put on his tape is that he looks the part. Ehinger is 6-foot-6 and 310 pounds and has a powerful build. He looks like a guy you want starting on your NFL offensive line. In terms of his play there was some good and bad in the two games I watched. I definitely do not want him starting at tackle in the NFL.

He simply doesn’t have the agility to keep up with outside pass rushers. In fact, he looks flat out stiff at times. However, he delivers a powerful punch to defenders that often keeps them off balance. He plays a little tall at times and can get overpowered when defenders get into his chest, but if the Chiefs can fix those technique issues he has the potential to be a solid starter at guard in the NFL.
