Coffee with the Chiefs – Draft Day

Good morning, Addicts! We are finally here, the 2016 NFL Draft. It feels as though it has been an eternity. It has been more than three months since the Kansas City Chiefs played a game, and now we can finally see the final piece to the offseason coming together.

Of course, the Chiefs are picking at the No. 28 spot so there is plenty of intrigue. We aren’t sure whether general manager John Dorsey will go with offense or defense. We also don’t know if he is thinking about a playmaker or a glue guy along one of the lines. There is just so much that can happen between the time the St. Louis Rams go on the clock, and when Kansas City turns its card in.

Chiefs go defense in final mock draft – Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star

"Assuming some interior defensive linemen they like are off the board — in case Vernon Butler, Chris Jones and Robert Nkemdiche (all of whom The Star has mocked to the Chiefs in previous mock drafts) are gone — the Chiefs have their choice of two corners with first-round grades in Apple and William Jackson III of Houston in this scenario."

Bad news for Chiefs in Todd McShay’s tier rankings – Adam Tiecher of ESPN

"McShay’s fourth tier contains 16 players, those he has rated from 23 to 38 overall. He describes this group of players this way: “Would rather not reach for these prospects late in the first round, but they’re good value picks in the first half of Round 2.’’"

Jon Gruden says quarterback-needy teams should take one now – Adam Teicher of ESPN

"The Chiefs don’t have a third-round pick this year, which would seem to make it unlikely they would use one of their other choices on a quarterback. They also have two other younger, developmental quarterbacks in Aaron Murray and Tyler Bray and having three options for that type of player would seem to be a crowd."
