Chiefs go defense in Mike Mayock mock draft

The Kansas City Chiefs addressed the defensive side of the ball in NFL expert Mike Mayock’s mock draft.

Most believe the Chiefs are going to take a defensive player in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, and Mike Mayock is no different. On Wednesday night, Mayock released his first and only mock and the respected analyst has the Chiefs taking corner William Jackson III out of the University of Houston.

Frankly, this is the pick I’m hoping for. Jackson is not the typical size Kansas City looks for in a corner, but is physical, has great ball skills and can run for days. Jackson is the most complete cornerback in this draft other than Jalen Ramsey, and reminds me plenty of a smaller Marcus Peters.

Clearly, the Chiefs have to take a corner at some point and the first round is a fine place. Kansas City has a stud in the aforementioned Peters but lost Sean Smith to free agency, leaving Marcus Cooper, Phillip Gaines and Steven Nelson on the depth chart. This is a huge issue.

Mayock’s mock is very interesting throughout, with all the quality receivers off the board before Kansas City picks. He also has Eli Apple going to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Artie Burns being drafted by the Arizona Cardinals. In what would be a fascinating pick, the Oakland Raiders are taking Myles Jack at No. 14.
