Chiefs mock drafts: Who is the pick?

Who will the Kansas City Chiefs take with the No. 28 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft?

The Chiefs are not a team with a ton of needs, something that shouldn’t be shocking when you consider their draft position. Kansas City is hoping to land one more major talent like ti did last year with Marcus Peters, and perhaps at the same position. With Sean Smith gone and Phillip Gaines coming back from a torn ACL, there is much concern about the corner spot.

There are some other thoughts floating around as well, including the notion of nabbing a wide receiver with the first-round selection. There could be a bevy of talented players slated to go right in that area, including Will Fuller, Josh Doctson, Laquon Treadwell and Corey Coleman.

It would be a mild surprise around here if the Chiefs go with a receiver, but it makes sense. Jeremy Maclin is the clear top dog on the depth chart, but there is nothing spectacular behind him. Maybe general manager John Dorsey believes a complement to Maclin opens him up along with tight end Travis Kelce. We will all find out soon enough.

Vernon Butler, DL, Louisiana Tech – ESPN (NFL Nation)

"The Chiefs don’t have an immediate need here but Dontari Poe is a potential free agent at the end of the 2016 season. Butler might be one of the most talented defensive linemen in the draft and the Chiefs are afforded a little bit of time to allow him to develop."

Robert Nkemdiche, DL, Ole Miss – Peter Schrager of FOX Sports

"Nkemdiche was invited to the draft and I expect him to go in the first round. The off-the-field concerns are real question marks for teams, but he won’t be the first defensive lineman in NFL history with a troubled past. Andy Reid can make it work."

Mackensie Alexander, CB, Clemson – Will Brinson of CBS Sports

"First-round pick on a cornerback worked out well for the Chiefs last year and they take another dip in the pool after losing Sean Smith in free agency."

Artie Burns, CB, Miami (FL) – Pete Prisco of CBS Sports

"They need to get help for Marcus Peters on the other side. Burns has good man skills, which the Chiefs love."

Artie Burns, CB, Miami (FL) – Bucky Brooks of NFL.com

"The Chiefs could elect to add an athletic CB2 to pair with Marcus Peters in the secondary."

Will Fuller, WR, Notre Dame – Charles Davis of NFL.com

"KC really struggled in the playoffs after losing WR Jeremy Maclin, and this blazer from Notre Dame will help by opening the field for Maclin, TE Travis Kelce and RB Jamaal Charles."
