Jeremy Maclin shows he’s a leader
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Jeremy Maclin is showing why he’s a leader.
There has been plenty of talk about Jeremy Maclin since he came to the Kansas CIty Chiefs last offseason. After signing a five-eyar, $55 million deal, some applauded while others felt he wouldn’t live up to the deal. After 87 catches, more than 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns, the naysayers were silenced.
Now, Maclin is showing his leadership. Over at Chiefs.com, writer B.J. Kissel wrote about Maclin getting the Chiefs’ receivers together for work in March. The group included Albert Wilson and Chris Conley, who came into Kansas City at Maclin’s behest, and on his dime.
"“I had gone back to Atlanta, Georgia and got an apartment there,” Chris Conley, last year’s third-round pick out of the University of Georgia, said. “ I’d been working out with the people that I train with in Georgia, then I got a phone call from [Maclin] one day, and he said, ‘Hey, what are you doing?’ I said, ‘Nothing man, just on the grind.’“Then he gave me a flight number and a time and told me to get on this flight. ‘You’re coming back to KC.’“I booked the flight and I came back,” Conley said. “I began working out with Jeremy at the beginning of March and stayed at his house.”"
This is awesome. Maclin is taking charge and trying to win the Super Bowl in his second year with the Chiefs, showing the road map of success to the younger guys. Kansas City needs this kind of take-charge attitude, especially on offense. It’s great to see one of the highest-paid guys on the team taking the reins when her easily could sit back and relax, knowing he is set for life.
Look for Maclin to have a huge year. The 27-year-old is still in the middle of his prime years and has Travis Kelce and Jamaal Charles surrounding him.
