5th Round (#165)

Daryl Worley – CB – West Virginia

Strengths: Possesses all of the ideal physical measurables.  Aggressive and physical, especially in press coverage.  Has excellent awareness and hand eye coordination to make a play on the ball.  Times his jumps very well to make his play at the right time.  Quality hands to secure the interception.  Solid form tackler who squares his target up to avoid broken tackles.

Weaknesses: Can struggle with quicker wide receivers on underneath routes.  While he is a strong tackler, he isn’t always aggressive in making the play.  Will sometimes let others do the dirty work of engaging blockers.  The big red flag here is a domestic violence incident that he pleaded no contest to.

The Fit: Worley is a very good player who comes with a giant red flag due to a domestic violence incident.  In today’s NFL, that’s enough to drop him down several rounds in the draft, but a team will definitely take their chances with him.  As long as he doesn’t have any further troubles off the field, you’re looking at a player with NFL starting talent and ability.

I don’t normally give the OK for adding a player with domestic violence issues, but unlike many professionals, Worley was willing to admit that he had done wrong, pleading no contest in his case.  While that doesn’t fix anything, it does show there is at least recognition of right and wrong.  And with a late 5th round pick being the investment, he would be an easy cut at the first sign of trouble.  The Chiefs could really walk away from this draft with a young secondary loaded with talent.
