The Chiefs brought Lynch to town last week for a pre-draft visit. It’s impossible to gauge the sincerity of “interest” this deep into the draft process, but one should never gloss over a visit to team facilities entirely. Defensive Rookie of the Year Marcus Peters made a stop in Kansas City around this time last year. Having intel and time spent with Lynch could be key factors in selecting him should he fall in Round One.

If you’re unfamiliar with Paxton Lynch, it might help you to get a mental picture of former Broncos backup Brock Osweiler. Between the two, the physical similarities are striking. Both of them possess a frame slightly shorter and roughly 12 pounds stockier than NBA small forward Kevin Durant. Despite his height, Lynch is surprisingly athletic. Make no mistake, he’s no Cam Newton, but his ability to keep defenses honest with his legs will help him extend plays at the next level.

Lynch has rare athleticism and impressive arm talent, but he’s also has warts the Chiefs coaching staff will have to address in the NFL. He’ll have a bit of an adjustment coming from the spread at Memphis. His lack of experience in a pro-style offense will be challenging over the next 2-3 years. Luckily for them, he’ll have time to develop under the tutelage of Andy Reid and Alex Smith. The Chiefs are likely to have Smith at the helm for at least the next two seasons so Lynch won’t have to be thrust into a starting role before he’s ready.
