Coffee with the Chiefs – Replacing Abdullah
Good morning, Addicts! This is a somber Tuesday, as we are still saying a professional farewell to Husain Abdullah. Abdullah was very underrated throughout the league, playing seven seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and three with our Kansas City Chiefs. Abdullah never made the Pro Bowl or an All-Pro team, but he was fantastic in multiple roles.
General manager John Dorsey will have a tough time replacing Abdullah, despite the fact he payed part-time snaps. He’s going to be sorely missed, and we wish him all the best in his retirement after sustaining five concussions in the arena.
Here is the news you need to know…
Husain Abdullah’s ability will be difficult to replace – Adam Teicher of ESPN
"That isn’t enough for the Chiefs to get the job done, particularly considering that Parker spends some of his playing time as a nickelback. The Chiefs have done a nice job of finding veteran safeties at low cost in free agency in recent years: Abdullah, Branch and Kurt Coleman. It may be too late for them to find that type of help in free agency this year, which means it’s a good thing they have seven picks in the upcoming draft."
Chiefs spending is up on offensive linemen from 2015 – Adam Teicher of ESPN
"Fisher counts for more than a third of the Chiefs’ spending in this position group. Otherwise, the Chiefs aren’t spending much for their linemen. Schwartz, signed as a free agent to be their starting right tackle, is in the first year of his contract and his salary cap number will increase as the deal ages. Fisher is still on the contract he signed as a rookie in 2013 and his cap number is relatively high because he was the first overall pick in that draft."
John Dorsey spotted at Ole Miss pro day – Joel Thorman of Arrowhead Pride
"Dorsey is a scout at heart so it’s no surprise to see him out on the road. There are a few notable prospects working out, including the likely No. 1 pick. OT Laremy Tunsil is expected by many to be the Titans selection for the No. 1 pick. He looked strong in drills and seems to be as close to a sure thing as you can get in the NFL Draft."
