Rules Changes: from NFL.com’s Analyst Conor Orr, at the NFL Annual Owners Meeting this week they decided,
To abolish any and all “chop” style blocks.
I would have to agree and add… what took you so long? Just think, Eric Berry was lost for a whole year on a cut-block. I’ve related this story previously but I’ll share it again, when I was in high school I mentioned to a friend of mine at church, who happened to play for a rival school, that I was thinking of making a come back from a knee surgery I had the previous year and he said, “If you do, I’ll tell all my teammates to go for your knees.” Ever since, I’ve thought of the chop block as a morally corrupt move… even though it wasn’t ill-legal.
My Take: Let me repeat, I WOULD have supported this rules change back when Red Grange was roaming the range.
Offensive and defensive play-callers are able to use the headset communication system whether they are on the field or in the booth.
Technology has taken over the game and since it has, there’s plenty of good reasons to allow coaches, no matter where they are standing or sitting, to communicate directly over the headset.
My Take: I would allow coaches in the booth and on the field to use the headsets that can talk directly with the players on the field.
Decided to permanently move extra points at the 25-yard line.
I don’t think the move is really going to make a huge difference in the way most teams approach the kickoff, even if a few teams have success pooch kicking it to the five to see if they can trap the receiving team down at the 20 or less.
My Take: Meh.
