The Kansas City Chiefs are hosting quarterback Paxton Lynch for a visit on Friday.
The Chiefs are going to turn over every rock heading into the 2016 NFL Draft on April 28 in Chicago, and this is one of them. General manager John Dorsey and his staff will be hosting Memphis Tigers quarterback Paxton Lynch, who is projected to go toward the back end of the first round.
Lynch going to visit Kansas City is going to set off alarm bells. The Chiefs don’t have an immediate need for a quarterback with Alex Smith still under contract for the next two seasons, but perhaps Dorsey is looking into the future. Right now, Kansas City has Aaron Murray and Tyler Bray as the second and third-string quarterbacks, and neither has ever played an NFL snap.
Dorsey could just be doing due diligence and absolutely nothing comes of this. However, Dorsey also might want to get the heir apparent in the building to allow Smith to bring him along throughout 2016 and 2017. Murray and Bray are both intriguing, but Kansas City does not have much invested in them. Murray was a fifth-round pick and Bray was undrafted.
Ya gotta love draft time.
