4th Round (#99)

Spencer Drango – OG – Baylor

Strengths: Athletic lineman with great size.  Plays quick off the ball and shows good footwork to position himself well against the defender.  Has a wide base that generates good leverage.  Strong hands to both jolt and latch onto defenders.  Head on a swivel and good understanding of angles that keeps him in the best position to protect the quarterback in prolonged pass plays.

Weaknesses: Big question mark regarding his ability to transition to an NFL guard from a tackle in a wide spread offense.  Technique will need to be addressed as he will no longer be the biggest and baddest.  Previous back injury will serve as a red flag for many teams.

The Fit: The Chiefs OL looks to be almost set, with the only obvious hole now being at left guard.  There is a chance the team believes that spot is also claimed with an in house option, but I can’t really say that I have faith in our current options.

Drango has good size and strength to play on the inside, but also possesses the athleticism a left guard needs to be a reliable option when pulling.  There will likely be a bit of a learning curve, but the long-term potential on this move is solid.  I like Drango enough as a prospect that I’ve carried him over from last week.
