Competition might be the best way to ensure that budding talent continues to mature on one of the youngest teams in the NFL. The Chiefs need talented players who can come in and push the veteran starters at positions where they don’t have clear answers heading into the 2016 season. Coleman and Whitehair do just that because they’re both good fits for what Kansas City hopes to accomplish on the offensive side of the ball. Both of them will need time to grow into consistent contributors at the next level, but should benefit from good coaching and veteran players they can learn from already on the roster.

If I had to pick one, I think I might lean towards Whitehair. It’s not exactly a sexy pick, but I believe his immediate benefits exceed what Coleman can bring to the offense in Year One. A strong offensive line will go a lot further in the development of this offense than additional pass-catching talent. Streater gives the Chiefs another respectable weapon opposite of Maclin, but without sufficient time to throw, I’m not sure it matters who the team splits wide.

What prospects are you excited about in the top round of the 2016 Draft? Which position demands the most attention with the 28th overall pick? Would a guard be a wasted pick in the opening round? Should the Chiefs consider trading down in case they don’t win their appeal of the NFL’s recent tampering punishment? Use the comment section below to weigh in.
