It remains to be seen what happens with Berry long-term (he’s extremely overpaid right now at $10.8 million, and quite frankly, is overpaid at a number exceeding $9 million). It will be interesting to see what happens with this position group the rest of the offseason. The Chiefs have a need for at least one safety, doesn’t have to start, but someone who could if Berry leaves after the 2016 season.
It should be noted the Chiefs have spent a lot of time meeting with defensive backs in the lead up to the draft. They see the issue same as I do.
Needs also are at pass-rusher, where the Chiefs really only have one true threat. Tamba Hali was slowed greatly at the end of the season, and as is the case in the NFL, players over the age of 30 generally start the next season in similar fashion to the manner in which they ended the previous. Dee Ford may very well not be with the team when it breaks camp, so pass-rusher, situational and developmental are important.
(Golden rule the Chiefs broke this off season.Never give new money to aging players with health issues. Chiefs did just that with Hali, guaranteeing him 2 years as he limps towards the end of his career.)
