Coffee with the Chiefs – Free agency needs?

Good morning, Addicts! Hopefully your Monday went well, and you are settling in and hoping for some news about the Kansas City Chiefs.

At this point, we can’t report any new developments on the free agency front. We already know that Rod Streater and Mitchell Schwartz were brought in, while Jaye Howard, Tamba Hali, Eric Berry, Derrick Johnson, Jamell Fleming and Frank Zombo were retained. Beyond that, we are waiting to see the fates of men like Husain Abdullah and Mike DeVito, two players who will hopefully come back into the fold.

With that being said, there is plenty of work ahead for general manager John Dorsey and his staff. The NFL Draft is looming (April 28-30) and there are still some free agents worth monitoring. For my money, the Chiefs should sign Anquan Boldin, but that might just be a pipe dream.

Here is the news you need to know…

Top five remaining needs for Chiefs in free agencyJoel Thorman of Arrowhead Pride

"The Jaye Howard re-signing only meant that this wasn’t an immediate need. It’s still a need. Howard’s deal is up after 2017 and then he’s going to be looking for a bigger deal. Dontari Poe is up after the 2016 season. Allen Bailey is under contract through 2018."

What should Chiefs expect from Rod Streater?Adam Teicher of ESPN

"Streater is only 28, so he should be heading into the prime seasons of his career. He’s on a one-year, prove-it contract with the Chiefs with a base salary of just $810,000. The contract contains plenty of financial incentives, meaning if Streater is serious about resurrecting his career, this is a good time to do it."

Chiefs have enough bodies on the offensive lineAdam Teicher of ESPN

"The Chiefs have two players who started some games for them, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Zach Fulton, at guard. They also have Paul Fanaika, who will return after missing all of last season with an injury, and a handful of developmental prospects."
