The Denver Broncos have traded for quarterback Mark Sanchez.

If you needed a really, really good laugh on a Friday, this is your opportunity. The Denver Broncos have traded a conditional draft pick to the Philadelphia Eagles and in return, got Mark Sanchez. I’ll give you a moment to compose yourself.

Sanchez is terrible. Flat out terrible. There is no reason to pretend this might work out. Sanchez has been with both the New York Jets and Eagles, and in his seven NFL seasons and in that time, has thrown 86 touchdowns with 84 interceptions. Sanchez’s completion percentage is 56.7, which basically makes him a turnover-prone Brian Hoyer.

Sanchez went to the AFC Championship Game in each of his first two seasons with the Jets, mostly relying on a solid defense and the scheming of head coach Rex Ryan. Sanchez is scheduled to make $5.5 million this season, which could be backup money but might also be a cheap starter.

Either way, it’s hilarious. Denver is so desperate for a quarterback that it needed to go out and acquire Sanchez, actually giving something up to get him. The Eagles must be doing cartwheels to get rid of him.
