4th Round

Connor McGovern – OL – Missouri

Strengths: Very powerful offensive lineman who understands how to make his strength work on the field.  Drives opposing defenders in the run game and can swallow them up in the passing game.  Shows very surprising quickness for his size and is able to get out in front of defenders when asked to pull or move in space.  Quick off the ball to get inside of his man and drive them off.  Moves his feet well and can mirror his opponent.  Will dominate in the phone booth.  Shows good awareness and understanding of assignment in zone blocking.  Versatile player with experience at LT, RT, and RG.

Weaknesses: His size makes him a little stiff in his movements.  Will struggle against quick defenders.  At times can be overwhelmed if left on the edge all game.  Doesn’t bend well, which allows defenders to get some leverage against him.

The Fit: McGovern has experience and talent up and down the line, but he’s best suited for the interior where he won’t have to move as much.  As I said before, the Chiefs need to get their OL locked down.  There are a number of players on the roster now that could see their jobs in jeopardy because of someone like McGovern coming in.  His experience at multiple positions is what will really attract the Chiefs though.  Kansas City appreciates versatility from its linemen and McGovern has that.
