3rd Round
Jordan Jenkins – OLB – Georgia
Strengths: Versatile pass-rusher who can attack from either side of a 3-4 at OLB, or put his hand in the dirt at DE in a 4-3. Good power to set the edge or even drive a blocker off the ball. Shows quickness to get across the tackle before he can be engaged. Uses his hands well to dictate the actions of the blocker. Has a nose for the ball and gets upfield quickly.
Weaknesses: While a good pass-rusher, doesn’t quite have the speed to finish consistently. Struggles in open field against both the run and the pass, which limits how much a team can have him on the field. A “tweener” who has question marks as both an OLB and DE.
The Fit: While most of the focus at OLB has been on the future prospects of Tamba Hali and Dee Ford, it has gone largely unmentioned that veteran backups Frank Zombo and Dezman Moses are both currently slated to hit Free Agency. If neither is re-signed, the Chiefs will certainly need to be investing in their depth at the position group at the very least. Jenkins is a pass-rush specialist who needs a lot of work to become a more complete player. However, as a depth option, he can provide a role for this team.
