Dak Prescott, who is 6-foot-2, 230 lbs., has been compared to Donovan McNabb. That may be a plus… or not. We’d have to climb inside Andy Reid’s noggin to know for sure. Prescott threw for 9,182 in his last three years at Mississippi State and ran for 2,403 in that same span. FYI, both his passing and rushing numbers are better than McNabbs’ collegiate stats.
In a piece that ESPN did on Dak Prescott called, “Family, Faith and Football” they detailed the struggle and loss of his mother Peggy to cancer and how the very next week Prescott came off the bench and led his team to a victory over long time rival Ole Miss. He then said,
"“Right then, at the end of the game, I hugged coach… and I went straight to her, I know how proud she would have been at that moment. [Now] there’s nothing I can do that’s too hard, I mean, everything can be done, and everything can be done with a smile on my face, being positive, no matter how hard it gets… because my mom did so.”"
Dak Prescott is clearly the best runner and scrambler in this year’s draft. His run fake is next to none and I’m not referring to his fake to a running back. It’s the fake run of his own (a two step fake from the top of the shotgun), then pulling back and zipping the ball downfield. In fact, I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a QB do that like he does it. He’ll take two steps forward as if he’d going to run in a certain direction, which works as well as a pump fake on the safeties, then steps backwards and delivers the ball to a wide open receiver, because his fake was so good.
Considered a dual threat, I’d like it to be clear that Dak Prescott is an excellent passer, finishing his senior year with a 66.2% passing percentage with 29 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. His career numbers show he had 70 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.
If Dak Prescott is there at number 28, don’t be surprised to hear his name called (don’t forget that two years ago he was projected as the top pick in this draft). He won’t be there in the second round when the Chiefs select at pick #59. Prescott is a wide bodied gun-slinger who compares favorably to Russell Wilson only a little bigger and stronger but someone who can scramble and run much in the same ways as Wilson.
What Dak Prescott has to learn is to make sure he doesn’t throw balls up for grabs when pressured. Of course he’ll have to learn to take the snap from under center but he’s very athletic and coachable so I don’t foresee that as being an issue for him.
Here’s some game tape for Dak Prescott vs. Auburn. I value game tape more than highlight videos because you can see what a player actually looked like on game day. He occasionally runs the option here, reminding me of the Chiefs scheme and interestingly, the announcers compare him to Cam Newton during this game. Enjoy.
What do you think Addict fans? Is there anyone this offseason who you believe in, that could end up the Chiefs quarterback of the future?
