The Kansas City Chiefs are getting some additional cap space to use in 2016, according to the National Football League Players Association. Kansas City did not use all of its cap space in 2015, and now is getting an extra $2,666,818 to use on this year’s class of free agents.

Every team is getting some amount of money. The Oakland Raiders are getting another $13,373,617 while the Denver Broncos are scooping up $3,571,239 for the open market. Oakland already is flush with space and needs across the roster, so look for general manager Reggie McKenzie to be wheeling and dealing.

Kansas City can use all the money it has, with so many free agents to sign. Eric Berry is at the top of the list, while Jaye Howard, Sean Smith, Tamba Hali, Derrick Johnson and others are also looming. The Chiefs are trying to build off their 11-5 season which included a 30-0 hammering of the Houston Texans in the AFC Wild Card Game.

Free agency officially begins on March 9 with the tampering period beginning two days before that. If general manager John Dorsey wants to keep the band together, he better have most of the guys locked up before other teams can get involved.
