Coffee with the Chiefs – What do they need?

Good morning, Addicts! It’s HUMP DAYYYYYYYYY. The Kansas City Chiefs are making their presence known at Indianapolis, where the NFL Scouting Combine is underway.

The Chiefs have business to do on a couple of fronts. Kansas City has to start signing some of its own free agents, especially Sean Smith, Eric Berry, Jaye Howard, Derrick Johnson and Tamba Hali. The franchise tag deadline is March 1. Meanwhile, general manager John Dorsey and his scouts have ample prospects to look over during the week at Lucas Oil Stadium. It is going to be a very busy week for the men with arrowheads on their hats.

Here is the news you need to know…

Chiefs’ needs include running back and lineAdam Teicher of ESPN

"If the Chiefs draft a receiver in an early round, it’s most likely a reflection on what they think about Albert Wilson and Chris Conley. Jeremy Maclin is solid as the No. 1 receiver, but the Chiefs won’t hesitate to find another receiver if they feel they don’t have someone who can be a solid No. 2."

Ohio State corner Eli Apple has the size that Kansas City likesJoel Thorman of Arrowhead Pride

"Then there’s the question of where he will be drafted. It’s still way too early in the draft process to really have an idea of a player’s draft stock. I’ve seen some folks putting him in the top half of the first round while others, such as Mel Kiper and Todd McShay, put him towards the bottom of the first round where the Chiefs pick (28)."

Kansas City Chiefs scouting report: DeForest BucknerLeigh Oleszczak of KC Kingdom

"If they decide to do this, one of the best defensive ends on the board in DeForest Buckner. Buckner, a senior out of Oregon, was one of the few bright spots for the Ducks’ defense in 2015 (remember that collapse in the Alamo Bowl?).  He’s the second rated defensive end and eighth best overall prospect available in the draft."
