Coffee with the Chiefs – Combine time!

Good morning, Addicts! We have finally reached the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine, which should keep us all very entertained for the next six days. Look for a ton of news to come out this week about free agency, with the general managers and agents all in the same place.

For the Chiefs, it is all about their own players. Will general manager John Dorsey be able to sign Eric Berry, Jaye Howard, Sean Smith, Derrick Johnson, Tamba Hali, Husain Abdullah and/or a litany of others? Dorsey has a ton of work to do and with less than two weeks until the tampering window of free agency, the clock is ticking.

Here is the news you need to know…

Kansas City has some work to do at the NFL CombineJoel Thorman of Arrowhead Pride

"For the Chiefs, there is a ton of work to do. The Chiefs need to figure something out with Eric Berry, who is scheduled to be a free agent on March 9. It’s been said the two sides are talking and we’re hoping they can get a deal done this week so that they keep the franchise tag available for another player (like Sean Smith)."

Chiefs offensive line was very young again in 2015Joel Thorman of Arrowhead Pride

"The Kansas City Chiefs offensive line was not great last year but did seem to improve as the season went on (or at least the Chiefs offense as a whole was able to work with what they had better). Perhaps the reason for that is that the Chiefs line was so young last year."

Cutting Jamaal Charles is not crazy, but it’s the wrong moveAdam Teicher of ESPN

"Cutting Charles would save the Chiefs more than $5 million in salary-cap space. That’s a significant number, but the Chiefs aren’t desperate for cap space. They have more than $30 million of available cap room, though they also have an impressive list of free agents they would like to re-sign."
