Coffee with the Chiefs – Combine week
Good morning, Addicts! I hope all of you had a nice weekend and enjoyed what was very nice weather across the country. It’s amazing to think that we are already into the latter part of February. In football terms, we are one day away from the start of the NFL Scouting Combine, and only two weeks removed from when free agency begins.
The NFL calendar moves so quickly, something that has to be worrying general managers across the league. John Dorsey still has plenty of work to do before March 9 (and really March 7, when players can begin talking to other teams) with Eric Berry, Sean Smith, Jaye Howard, Husain Abdullah, Derrick Johnson, Jeff Allen, Tamba Hali and others about to hit the market.
Here is the news you need to know…
Andy Reid will miss NFL Scouting Combine after knee surgery – Sean Wagner-McGough of CBS Sports
"Andy Reid will not be in Indianapolis for perhaps the most important week of the offseason when it comes to pre-draft evaluations. The Chiefs’ coach, fresh off a successful 11-5 season, will be forced to miss the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine due to knee replacement surgery."
Scouting report: Ronnie Stanley – Leigh Oleszczak of KC Kingdom
"Stanley, a senior out of Notre Dame, is considered the second best tackle in this draft and the seventh best prospect overall. He very well could have been the first tackle selected in last year’s draft, but he opted to return to Notre Dame for his senior year."
Chiefs have uncertainty surrounding defensive line – Joe Soriano of NFL Spin Zone
"Though the players at more glamorous positions like outside linebacker, free safety, and cornerback grab the headlines, you can’t forget that Kansas City is blessed with one of the NFL’s best three-man fronts. Dontari Poe, Allen Bailey, Jaye Howard, and Mike DeVito are all solid players in this league, and all of them but Poe are among the league’s most underrated defensive linemen (because Poe gets enough credit)."
