Should Smith go to another team, the Chiefs are looking at a desperate situation. Luckily, Marcus Peters is in tow and looks like the second coming of Darrelle Revis. However, the rest of the depth chart should send people heading for the Advil. Kansas City would be starting Phillip Gaines on the outside with second-year man Steven Nelson in the slot. The backups on the outside? Marcus Cooper and Jamell Fleming. Can you imagine if Peters got hurt?

The Chiefs should be making every effort to go out and sign another corner, perhaps Janoris Jenkins or Tremaine Johnson, both quality, young corners from the Los Angeles Rams. Neither would be cheap, but perhaps Kansas City could save a few cents on the dollar and get cheaper with one of them.

Next: 7-round mock draft

Dorsey could also look to the draft, although there are not a bunch of great choices toward the back end of the first round. Kendall Fuller out of Virginia Tech looks like a promising player who could slot in and play right away. The Chiefs should also be trying to churn the depth and find some better options to play behind Peters and Gaines.
