Round 7: Darius Latham, DT, Indiana

Was suspended for a couple games this past season and was a surprise early entrant into the draft, Latham has the size to play defensive end or the frame to bulk up and help with depth at the nose. Similar to the Chiefs un drafted free agent from past off season David Irving, who was signed by the Cowboys, Latham is the guy who can provide depth and athleticism along the line. Recorded four sacks this past season out of the defensive tackle spot for the Hoosiers, so could be an interesting long term play on the line.

It should be noted, I left interior offensive lineman off the list because they Chiefs carried anywhere between three and four interior lineman through the season on their practice squad, so they have, at the very minimum, solid camp depth at the position.  Similar with wide receiver, the Chiefs held on  to 2015 seventh-round pick Da’ron Brown and Fred Williams, so again, depth at the position.

Lastly, while I like this make up, I highly doubt this will happen. I just can’t see Reid and Dorsey inviting the type of scrutiny that comes with drafting a quarterback. I’m not sure if the issues go above Dorsey, but, the point remains this organization has seemed averse to investing draft picks in the quarterback position, at least in the draft. I guess we’ll see how this mock draft, and future projections look as we move forward through the free agency,  scouting and draft process.
