Philadelphia Eagles:  The Eagles have re-signed offensive tackle Lane Johnson on a deal that gives him more guaranteed money than any other tackle in the NFL.  The belief is that Johnson will now switch to left tackle, where he finally got some reps this past season.  The Eagles have also signed defensive lineman Vinny Curry to a new five year deal at an average of just over $9 million/year.

One player not looking to stay in the mix though is running back DeMarco Murray.  Reports say that Murray and the Eagles are not in a good place, however Murray has refuted that…as most players do.  Reports are coming out that the Eagles may be targeting Chiefs backup QB Chase Daniel this offseason, as Daniel is set to be a free agent.

  • Chiefs’ Take: The Johnson deal will definitely be a point of contention in contract talks with Eric Fisher.  Fish has started to come around and show some real talent, but it’s doubtful the Chiefs will be willing to give him the kind of money that Johnson just got…but there’s no way Fisher’s agent will ask for less.  Fortunately, the Chiefs have the 5th Year Option to use, and likely will.
  • Chiefs’ Take: The market continues to stay high for defensive linemen.  That hurts the Chiefs chances of being able to re-sign Jaye Howard.  There is some good news here though.  As teams re-sign their own players, we are seeing potential landing spots dry up.  Combined with a very strong defensive line draft class, the market for guys like Jaye Howard may end up drying up before he can cash in.  That would put the Chiefs in a position where they could be able to afford him on a new deal.

: Chase to Philly makes a lot of sense with Doug Pederson being the new head man there.  Daniel will know the offense which can help the team transition to the new scheme.  However, we should also keep an eye on Aaron Murray and Tyler Bray.  If Pederson believes that either of them offers the potential to be a starter, he may make a trade offer.

Just a week after talking about a fresh start in San Francisco, Colin Kaepernick apparently wants no part of the organization.

San Francisco 49ers:  Colin Kaepernick reportedly wants out of San Francisco, hoping to find his way to New York to play for the Jets.  Once the crowned king of San Fran, Kaepernick’s relationship has soured with the organization over the past couple of years.

    • Chiefs’ Take: Obviously any story involving Kaep’s relationship with SF will have a back story involving Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith.  One would think that there’s just the slightest smile when he reads things like this.
    • Author’s Take: It wasn’t that long ago that the SF leadership and Kaepernick were supposedly both looking to restart their relationship and move forward.  So what happened?  In my opinion, Kaepernick got one whiff of how Chip Kelly was going to do things and decided he wanted no part of it.  It’s no secret that Kelly’s approach to things doesn’t sit well with a lot of people, as evidenced by what many consider a failed search for a Defensive Coordinator.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers:  The Bucs are apparently working on a new deal for running back Doug Martin.  There had been some question as to whether the team was willing to retain him or if Martin even wanted to stay with the organization.  It appears that has been answered.

Washington Redskins:  The Redskins have signed veteran defensive lineman Ziggy Hood to a one year deal.  The team is not expected to retain running back Alfred Morris.  Morris has had some great moments in Washington, but the emergence of younger talent has made him a bit of a luxury the team doesn’t need.

Well, that will do it for me Addicts.  Man, what a week.  Be sure to check back in next week for another round up of all the NFL news and rumors.
