Chiefs reportedly interested in Johnny Manziel
The Kansas City Chiefs are apparently thinking about setting off an epic firestorm in the heartland. Ed Werder of ESPN is reporting that Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel is telling folks that both the Los Angeles Rams and our Chiefs are interested in his services.
Manziel is currently under contract for two more years with an option for a third, but Cleveland came out on Tuesday and all but announced his release. For salary cap reasons, the Browns won’t officially release him until March. Frankly, this report is a bit bizarre. Why the Chiefs want to bring in Manziel when they already have a good starter in Alex Smith and two nice prospects in Aaron Murray and Tyler Bray.
Manziel has been a disaster since coming into the National Football League in 2014. He has constantly been in trouble, between issues with his girlfriend that have brought police involvement to partying in Las Vegas. Last offseason, Manziel went to rehab for 10 weeks outside of Cleveland and seemed to be turning his life around, but the wheels have come off once again.
Head coach Andy Reid has been known to take chances on troubled players. After all, Reid signed Michael Vick after he was released from prison back in 2011. Would the Chiefs pull the trigger on a kid who is undeniably talented but a total headcase?
