The offensive line, however, is a different story. Eric Fisher has significantly improved, especially in the run game, and should return to anchor down the left tackle spot. Jeff Allen has been a revelation at left guard and Mitch Morse is the future at center after a lovely rookie season. The right side of the line is where the problems lie, and should be a top priority of Dorsey this off season.
Laurent Duvernay-Tardif has performed admirably at right guard, but is definitely not starting caliber in a higher quality NFL offensive line. The Canadian doctor could be kept for depth, and I would have no issue with that, but if he is starting come September, then there should be serious questions asked.
Right tackle has been a problem all year long. Eric Fisher when playing there struggled, though he should now be kept at left tackle, Jah Reid performed well for someone picked up off the street but doesn’t cut the mustard and Donald Stephenson is downright terrible and should be cut as soon as is humanely possible.
Reid has recently signed a new three year deal and will be kept around for depth, which is no problem due to his recent performances at right guard, however, both of these offensive line positions are up for grabs, and if Kansas City want to progress to the next level and compete for a Super Bowl, then these positions must be addressed by John Dorsey.
This offseason is all about making a good, competitive team one of the best teams in the NFL. At the moment, there are a lot of strengths to this side, but there are also weaknesses that must be corrected if Kansas City have dreams of reaching a Super Bowl. The main addition to this team, for me, should be the right side of that porous offensive line.
