Other Contracts to Consider

Alex Smith – QB (2019 UFA):  Smith is about to come into the more expensive years of his contract.  If the quarterback of the future isn’t on the roster now, he needs to be soon.  Otherwise the Chiefs need to be looking at extending Alex again to keep his cost down.

Eric Fisher – OT (2017 UFA):  In his third year, Fisher has started to emerge as a quality player.  If his development continues, he could get very expensive very fast.

Travis Kelce – TE (2017 UFA):  Already a budding superstar, Kelce is looking at a big pay day when he hits Free Agency.  The smart move would be to not let that happen by signing him early.

Dontari Poe – DT (2017 UFA):  The Chiefs locked up Poe with the fifth-year option.  However, that price tag will continue to climb.

Well, that’s the breakdown of our current in house options moving forward.  Unfortunately, there a lot of important names on that list that will have to be considered.  Dorsey certainly has his work cut out for him.  Another reason why making the playoffs is so great…the pressure and focus on these contracts would be excruciating without that distraction.

You certainly don’t want to be the General Manager of a team that is having to hear about those questions right now.  But with John Dorsey working behind the scenes, I am sure that we will hear about a couple of these contracts sooner rather than later.
