Chiefs roster: A look ahead at the offseason

Linebackers
Derrick Johnson – Inside Linebacker – UFA: A lot of the Chiefs offseason hinges on what happens with Derrick Johnson. I do believe that the Chiefs have his future replacement on the roster in Ramik Wilson, but that doesn’t mean they are ready to move on. I foresee Johnson being re-signed, but the price tag is the big question.
Hopefully he will be willing to go along the same lines as Tamba Hali, but if DJ decides to get what he’s worth, the Chiefs will have to sacrifice somewhere else. For those that think he’s too old…well, the All Pro voting would say that you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Dezman Moses – Outside Linebacker – UFA: The stat sheet on Moses isn’t all that impressive, but he’s becoming a stout and versatile player that can be used in a lot of situations. He’s young enough to still develop some, but has been around the league long enough to help out rookies as they come in. Re-signing him on a two year deal is the most likely course of action from where I’m sitting.
Frank Zombo – Linebacker – UFA: I see Zombo as the odd man out. Of all the guys on the roster at linebacker, he is probably the most replaceable. In fact, it should be Dezman Moses that is replacing him. Zombo’s value is as a special teams guy and a plug and play backup. Journeymen like him are especially valuable to teams that need to quickly build their depth. The Chiefs have progressed beyond that point.
