Eric Berry wins social challenge for Walter Payton award

Eric Berry is the best story in the National Football League this year. When the announcement comes for who won the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, Berry should be the runaway winner, for both his courage and his doings in the community.

On Friday, it was announced that Berry authored another terrific comeback story, with a huge assist for the fans of the Kansas City Chiefs. The NFL has been putting on a social media challenge for the finalists of the Walter Payton award, with the player who gets the most tweets and hashtags getting $20,000 donated to a charity of their choosing.

Despite being down 70,000 votes to 36,000 with only two days left, the Chiefs fans rallied in a way that perhaps the team inspired and earned the victory for Berry. He won by a count of 94,000 to 91,000.

Frankly, Berry should clean up on the awards this year. He should win the Walter Payton Man of the Year, and certainly the NFL Comeback Player of the Year (although, incredulously, some have suggested that Adrian Peterson, who beat his kid, should win the award. Good times.). He has already been named to the Pro Bowl and certainly could be a First-Team All-Pro. Oh, and he kicked cancer’s ass.

Other than that, not much going on for Berry.
